This is a conceptual problem. The board needs to go over it’s center of gravity in order for it to fall. If it is a 20 cm gap the board needs to be double that length to maintain it’s equilibrium at the center.

Hence

Another way:

The torque created by the piece over the gap must be less than that on the table

Take the fulcrum to be the edge of the first table

so0.10m * 0.20 < (x/2)* x , where x is the amount of the board over the table

so x2 > 2*0.10*0.20

x >sqrt(2*0.10*0.20) = 0.20m or 20 cm

Therefore the board must be at least 20 + 20 or 40 cm long
