Question
Draw a series of pictures to represent the process of charging up the electrophorus. Clearly indicate the sign of the charge, where the charge is, when charge is transferred, and where the charge goes. hand becomes unchouge 2 D becomes chorg ri Charge up the electrophorus and bring it near the electroscope without making contact. Pull it away. R12: Record your observation. Tt Caused the Leaues of ene elechro scope to diue Now bring the electrophorus in contact with the electroscope. Pull it away again. R13: Record your observation. Explain what happened in the two cases using terms like "induced charge" and "charge transfer". Illustrate this with pictures. Clearly indicate the sign of the charge, where the charge is, when and i charge is transferred, and where the charge goes.Explanation / Answer
R12.
Observation:: you are right! It would cause the leaves to diverges.
Reason: Opposite charges would gather at the terminal ( which is near to the electrophorus ) and the leaves would have same charges. So it would diverge.
R.13. The leaves would diverge.
Reason: The electroscope was neutral initially. You charged it by touching the electrophorus. SOME of the charges would go to the electroscope from the electrophorus. So the leaves would have the same charge and it would diverge.
