2) False. X chromosomes are essential to life and contain much more genetic material. There have been cases of organisms living with XO (or just an X chromosome) however, there can be no suvival with YO. X chromosomes are also physically much large than Y chromosomes.

3) B - sex is determined by genes. Genic sex determination and chromosomal sex determination are essentially the same thing because genes (genetics) are located on chromosomes. There are other ways of sex determination that are not based on genes. For example, if an individual has all the genetic materials to become male ie. XY chromosome but there was a problem transcribing the SRY gene (on the Y chromosome), that individual will not produce testosterone in early development and will not develop testes. They will be gonadally and phenotypically female because they will have ovaries and will look like a female.

There are essentially 3 types of sex determination: chromosomal sex (what genes/chromosomes you have), gonadal sex (what gonads you have; ovaries or testes) and phenotypic sex (development of accessory sex characteristics). Individuals can vary and be chromosomally and gonadally one sex but phenotypically another or any combination depending on exactly what happens during development and what genetics they received.
