a) bottleneck of the project is one which takes highest processing time: in this case step 4 takes highest highest time of 38 minutes

Hence step 4 is the bottle neck.

b)

since step 4 is the bottleneck, the capacity of the system is also decided by step 4.

step 4 can produce x units in 1 hour: x = 60/38 = 1.58 units

step 2 can produce y units in 1 hour: y = 60/20 = 3 units

but since the capacity of the system is 1.58 units per hour.

utilization of step 2 = 1.58/3 = 0.5263 = 52.63%

c)

1 unit is produced in 38 minutes according to the bottleneck:

hence 110 units take = 38*110 = 4180 minutes = 4180/60 = 69.67 hours

it takes 69.67 hours to produce 110 units
