San Jose State University has experienced many different types of assaults and attacks over the recent years. Protecting students on campus day and night should be the main concern of the university. Risky Business believes that this is due to the poor lighting on campus to ensure that students feel safe. We believe that motion activated lighting on campus and in the parking garages will deter potential threats. Our project will dive into the scope baseline, project cost, and critical path.

HR Management: For our project we believe that using a responsibility matrix would be beneficial to us for several reasons. The first reason is that it is a fairly straight forward and simple chart to create and manage. The second is that it lists out all of the major action items for our project and assigns them to members of our group. This chart also allows us to assign aspects of our project to individuals, as well as assign individuals in support or backup roles. We can also apply an HR strategy to our cost plan to help us get a more accurate cost estimate.

Communication: For communication, our team needs to set ground rules and document them before our project begins. We can also use standard tools such as email and SharePoint to communicate. SharePoint is also a good place to save and share documents concerning our project plan so that team members can access the files they need. We will also use marketing and technology such as social media and email to communicate with our customers. We can also use an anonymous complaint/suggestion box or email domain for our employees to raise issues or ideas they may have.

Training: The involvement of HR management is critical in this project as the protection and safety of college students on campus, is a critical functionality of the department as well. The help that we need from the HR department in this aspect is to create awareness among the students about the safety measures that they can employ till the time, this project gets into action. The HR personnel can conduct safety trainings for the students as well as the staff. Safety audits can also be done by a group of volunteers along with the HR to identify the critical accident areas in the campus.

Conflict and Team management: Another aspect in which HR department would prove beneficial for this project is the allocation of manpower as well as team management. The HR personnel can look into the daily actions of the team and can resolve any kind of internal dispute and conflict, which might affect the project’s timelines. Random audits can be done to check team’s performance and identify free riders in the team. HR personnel can counsel the free rider and identify the reasons behind his inability in job performance. This will result in effective utilization of all allocated resources and the project can finish in time and meeting all quality standards.
