provide a couple examples of each:
what should you recommend Kristen to have done in the planning part of the project to eliminate problems? what could have been completed in the planning phase to make the execution phase more successful?
what would you do in the execution phase to improve the probably of project success?
how would you handle the execution part of the project based on what u Know?
Explanation / Answer
1. To eliminate the project problems, Kristen should have done more extensive preperation for the project during the planning part itself.
For instance, kristen should have assessed the average utiliztaion of the project resources, especially the ones who are required for critical activvities, and managed them accordingly. Like in the case of IT people, if during the planning phase itself Kristen could foresee that they will be overallocated, yet some of their activities are critical, Kristen could have given some tasks to other resources or hired or arranged for additional resources in IT.
Secondly, during the planning phase to ensure that the execution phase is more successful, Kristen could have invoved the project stakeholders in the planning process, so that during the execution phase, conflicts over lack of communication regarding the project can be avoided.
2. During execution phase, to improve the probability of project success, I would like to keep all the project stakeholders on the same page, by bringing them on one platform through meetings and open communications. This will help me avoid any potential conflicts arising due to ambiguity regarding project roles and how certain tasks have to be performed. This will also help me to motivate the project stakeholders to share the project responsibilities from the overallocated resources like IT, or suggest more innovative solutions to tackle such issues.
3. Based on what I know, I would first hire more IT and supplier management expert hours for the project, as these resources have the potential of becoming bottlenecks. Moreover, I would like to motivate our suppliers with long term contracts and full support in shifting from traditional to JIT model, to make sure that suppliers are party to the project.
Lastly, I would like to involve all the project stakeholders through open communication and common meetings to ensure that the project’s actual status is known to them, and they have a platform to resolve their conflicts amicably.
