The following are the list of five stages in the decision making process:

For me, I believe, identification of the decision criteria and allocation of the weights or priority to each of the decision criteria, is the most important. It is a critical step where designing the decision criteria, needs to take into consideration a lot of factors. Prioritizing the criteria based upon the allocated weights is serious affair based on which the subsequent steps of the decision-making process is largely dependent upon. In fact, the final alternative applied to the problem, is worked upon on the basis of this step only. Hence if the decision criteria and allocated weights are not meticulously designed, then the purpose of the entire decision-making process fails.
