Question

Will you help me find:

-The reaction at the pinned support in the x-direction -The reaction at the pinned support in the y-direction upwards -The reaction at the roller support in the y direction upwards -the value of max moment Part 3 of 3-Figure 2.59: Q10 For each problem in this assignement, find the beams' reaction forces, identify the shear and moment diagrams for beams, and then use the beam design charts on TRACS to design the lightest/most economical W-shape for the g span and calculated maximum moment.? (Recall that the span length is the distance between supports, not necessarily the entire length of the beam.) (For this sketch, w-2 kips/ft and L = 30 ft) Attachments (010) Question 19 of 27 3.0 P

Explanation / Answer

given, w = 2 kips / ft

L = 30 ft

a. let the reaction at the supports in the left be Lx and Ly and that in the right roler support be R

then from force balance in y direction we get

w*L/3 = Ly + R

force balance in the x direction gives us

Lx = 0

moment balance about the left support gives us

w*L*L/3*6 = R*L [ here we have assumed that the net weight of w acts on the center of the object w]

hence

R = Wl/18 = 2*30/18 = 3.3333 kips

Lx = 0 kips

Ly = 2*30/3 - 3.333 = 16.666 kips

so Lx = 0 kips

b. Ly = 16.666 kips

c. R = 3.333 kips

d. the value of the maximum momenbt in the beam will be near the point where the net force on the object w acts

Mmax = 3.3333*(2L/3 + L/6) = 3.333*30*7/6 = 116.655 kips ft
