Construct a summary statistics table In this part of the lab, you will construct a summary statistics table, much like researchers do in papers prior to conducting regression or other statistical analyses. As a guiding example, you will first consider and answer questions about Table 1 in Weathering the Storm 1. What are the types of statistics listed in Table 1, including those labeled N and SD? 2. Are the table's statistics for the sample or the population? Explain. 3. Why do the authors construct separate sets of summary statistics in each column? Explain, to the extent that you can given your understanding of the statistical methods, why each column was included in the table. 4. Instead of studying birth weight and hurricanes (because the latter is not in your dataset), decide on another variable in your dataset that you might want to compare against birtbweight. Why might you want to study that variable? 5. Construct a set of summary statistics for your full sample, using variables that you think are potentially relevant to your hypothetical study (you should at least include basic demographidc information) 6. Construct at least two other sets of summary statistics for two sub-samples of your datasets. 7. Organize the three sets of summary statistics you constructed in parts 8 and 9 into a full table. I recommend using Excel or (Google) Sheets. 8. Discuss some (at least two) of the ways in which your sub-samples differ from your full sample. Are the differences statistically significant?
