Explanation / Answer

Author identifies four factors which are essential for building a quality culture in an organizations.

1. leadership emphasis on quality-When management actions and decisions are based on the qaulity values and vision they want to see in the organization, there is more alignment in the strategy and actions and employees are clear of the way they need to work to maintain the quality culture.

2. Message credibility-Though quality messages are passed to employees but a lot also depends on how the employees perceive that message. there will not be a single messages that will resonate wit.h all kinds of employees. Some perceive better cutsomer feedback as quality and others reduced cost as wuality. so the message should be given based on employee priority with which employees will identify immediately

3. peer involvement-Another way of having a qaulity culture is to involve all people to generate quality initiatives. when teams and peers work together in quality initiatives, it harbours a feeling of bringing quality in evrything around them

4. Empowering Employees-if only quality messages are passed and employees are not given power to take decision to act on the quality matters. giving them ownership will keep them motivated and they will work to create a quality environment

out of these 4 quality essentials, most improtant would be the leadership emphasis on quality. all others will not be sustainable if leadership doesnt have a quality vision and doesnt work on them. when leaders create a culture, it will be more sustainable and will become a part of organizations DNA.

Part 2

Here the Cost of quality is based on the amount of time a person spends in reworking and correcting past mistakes. This doesnt seem on the higher side as for a particular company size, inefficiencies increase and people do more rework which result in wastage of manpower. This cost seems to be fine keeping all others factors in mind.

Part 3

When quality culture moves down from the top it remains sustainbale but in the process right message should be passed to the employee. Top management should also define how quality should be perceived depending on the organization and employee output, so that effort shall be put in the right place to improve quality.

Part 4

When quality culture is build in the organization, employees feel accountable and motivated to continuosly improve the system. So once the organization has a quality culture, it will not just save the cost of quality but also make sure that things and processes are improved even further which can ulimately bring more saving than expected.
