Question
Suppose you recruit 15 women with GDM for a clinical trial beginning in the 28^th week of pregnancy, and randomly assign 5 women to receive weekly weight and glucose checks only, 5 to receive weekly diet/exercise counseling, and 5 to receive low-dose sulfonylurea (a glucose-lowering medication). Since the women were randomized, there was no significant difference in their baseline fasting glucose levels. Fasting glucose in the 36^th week of pregnancy is given in mg/dL below. Determine whether there is a significant difference in fasting glucose among the treatment groups at a 5% significance level. Hypotheses:Explanation / Answer
1) null Hypothesis: all groups have same mean value for fasting glucose among treatment groups
Alternate hypothessis: there is a difference in fasting glucose among treatment groups
2)test statistics:
from above test statistics F =1.758
critical value : at 2 and 12 degree of freedom and 0.05 level of signfiicance ; critical value F =3.8853
Answer: as test stat is less then critical value ; we can not reject null hypothesis
Conclusion:
we do not have significant evidence to conclude that there is a difference in fasting glucose among treatment groups
