Scenario: You are attending a town council meeting where you meet community leader Fran Richardson who is influential in the transportation business. You and Richardson obviously have a lot in common and your conversation is animated and friendly. As a manager in an engineering firm, you know that Richardson could be a valuable contact. Your conversation is interrupted with the start of the meeting. Richardson says to you, “Let’s meet for lunch. I’ll call you soon.” Students will respond to the following:

In this scenario where I meet Fran Richardson for lunch, both parties will try to put their point across. The sender sends some piece of information to the receiver which is formulated through their knowledge and education. In the given scenario, as a manager in an engineering firm, I am the sender as I am sending information to Fran Richardson in a face to face meeting.
The receiver in this case is Fran Richardson. The receiver has to understand the message thus received. The feedback of the receiver can be comprehended through tone, eye contact and knowledge.
The channel determines the way the information is sent. Face to face, phone call, email, video conferencing are some of the methods available to make the conversation happen. In the given case, the method of one-to-one conversation is used.
As a manager in an engineering firm, it is crucial for me to put the message across to establish a healthy working relationship with Richardson. The message would be to know this town meeting contact better to achieve a business relationship that may aid both parties in the future course of time.
Feedback may either be in the form of verbal or non-verbal communication. It can be something that is conveyed between the receiver and the sender. It could be a tone or an expression while communicating with each other.
Noise is the interruption that occurs during communication. It could be a phone call, a noisy surrounding, etc. In the given scenario, the interruption between me and Fran Richardson occurs due to the starting of the meeting.
