Question

Arabidopsis thaliana is a green-leafed plant, but a variegated type has green-and-yellow leaves. To investigate the mechanism of plant variegation, researchers created, in the DNA of the variegated Arabidopsis, a recessive mutation that suppresses variegation. When the green mutants were crossed with the variegated types, the first-generation plants were all variegated, thus confirming the recessive aspect of the mutation. In the second generation (F2), the researchers obtained 84 green plants and 216 variegated plants. Using the four-step process, fill in the blanks.

2= __Answer 1__. Round your answer to 2 decimal places.

df = __Answer 2__. Give your answer as a whole number.

P = __Answer 3__. Round your answer to 2 decimal places.

I need the answer with the method.

Explanation / Answer

null hypothesis: proportion of green and vegetable are 1/4 and 3/4.

alternate hypothesis.proportion of green and vegetable are not 1/4 and 3/4.

here applying chi square goodness of fit test:

from above chi stat X2 =1.44

degree of freedom =number of categories-1 =2-1 =1

p value for abvoe =0.2301

as p value is significantly high we can not reject null hypothesis that proportion of green and vegetable are 1/4 and 3/4.

observed Expected Chi square cents portion Probability O E=total*p =(O-E)^2/E green 1/4 84.000 75.00 1.08 vegetable 3/4 216.000 225.00 0.36 1 300 300 1.4400
