Question

Please provide a detailed answer with all the steps.

Mr. Bayubay gave an assignment worth 30 marks. After marking the first five papers, he was concerned that the students did not understand the assignment. He predicted most students would not do well Here are the first 5 marks... 20, 15, 18, 19, 18 a) Based on this sample of marks, predict what the average will be for the whole class include the mean, median and mode. b) The following are the scores for all 30 students. . 20 15 18 19 18 16 17 23 24 30 27 28 22 24 19 22 24 21 20 24 25 19 24 15 28 13 28 22 24 20 Did Bayubays sample lead him to make a false prediction? What is the actual mean, median and mode of the class?

Explanation / Answer

a) arranging above data in ascending order:

from above mean =18

median =(n+1)/2 th value =(5+1)/2 th value =3rd value =18

mode =18 (as it appears maximum number of times)

b)

  arranging above data in ascending order:

from above mean =21.63

median =(n+1)/2 th value =(30+1)/2 th value =(average of 15th and 16th value)=(22+22)/2 =22

mode =24 (as it appears maximum number of times)

from above we can see that Bayubay's sample lead to false prediction

X 15 18 18 19 20 total 90 mean=total/5 18
