Question

The Florida Tourist Commission selected a random sample of 200 people that attended one or more concerts during the first weekend in April of 2010. The survey revealed that 120 concert goers went to skydome and 100 went to the Bithlo Megaplex. Calculate the probability that a selected concert goes during the same weekend next year will go to either the orlampa skydome OR the Bithlo Megaplex? P(Orlampa Skydome or Bithlo Megaplex) = P(Orlampa Skydome) + P(Bithlo Megaplex) = P(Orlampa Skydome AND Bithlo Megaplex) Book Notation P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A _______

Explanation / Answer

We have been given A = 100, B = 120 and Total = 200

Total = A + B - (A and B)

200 = 100 + 120 - (A and B). Therefore (A and B) = 220-200 = 20

P(A) = 100/200 = 0.5, P(B) = 120/200 = 0.6 and P(A and B) = 20/200 = 0.1

Therefore P(A or B) = 0.5 + 0.6 - 0.1 = 1
