(a) In your opinion, should the manufacturer of a new pesticide carry the burden of proof that the pesticide is not harmful, or should the EPA (environmental protection agency) carry the burden of proof that the pesticide is harmful? Explain your reasoning. (b) Formulate the null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis (in words) that correspond to your answer in part (a). (c) Define a type I and type II error in the context of this problem corresponding to your definition of null and alternative hypothesis in part (a).Explanation / Answer
Q.2(a) Here the burden of proof lies on the environmental groups who have raised concerns about the pesticide that is harmful for humans. It is because it is their claim that the pesticide is harmful so have to reject the claim of chemicall company.
(b) HEre null hypothesis : H0 : The mean harmful content in the chemical is less than the standard prescribed by food authorities. <= 0
Alternaive Hypothesis : Ha : the mean harmful content in the chemical pesticide is above the standards prescribed by foood authorities. > 0
(c) Type I error = When the mean harmful content will be less than the standard limit but it is proved that company released harmful content more than the limits.
