Question

Ben and I performed a study last year focusing on students perceptions of campus sociosexual norms on the Tempe campus. We asked about students’ attitudes toward, and perceptions of the frequency of dates, romantic relationships, hookups, and friends with benefits. On the next page is the SPSS output depicting the univariate frequency distribution, and descriptive statistics, for two questions.

1. Hookups at ASU are good/bad

2. Hookups at ASU are common

The attitude item was scored such that a 1 (bad) indicates a negative attitude while a 7 (good) indicates a positive one. The prevalence item was coded such that a 1 (strongly disagree) indicates low prevalence (i.e., hookups don’t happen very often) and a 5 (strongly agree) indicates high prevalence (i.e., hookups happen frequently).

In the space below, describe the nature of both distributions (i.e. for good/bad and common). Describe the shape, central tendency, and what you can infer about the nature of these two distributions.

Hookups are typical 400 Mean 4.27 Std. Dev. .896 N = 710 300 200 100 0- 2 Hookups are typical

Explanation / Answer

We have given two datasets name as Hookups are typical and hookups are good/bad.

Hookups are typical :

The mean, median and mode for this distribution are :

Here we can see that,

Mode> mean > median

Wse can see that from the graph data is positively skewed.

Hookups are good/ bad :

The mean, median and mode for this distribution are :

Here also mean > median and mode.

The data looks like positively skewed distribution.

mean 4.27 median 4 mode 5
