Question

For each of the following questions, provide a brief one- to two- sentence answer or explanation. (a) A study examines plant regeneration on forest plots after forest fire. The plots are characterized by level of burn and presence/absence of large woody structure. The responses are proportions of lm diameter plots that show regeneration. Is logistic regression appropriate here? Why or why not? (b) What would you do in a Poisson regression if your responses (count data) are not collected within the same amount of time? (c) What are the randomized complete block design and randomized incomplete block design? What is their difference? (d) In a study to understand the relationships between air temperature and soil temperature, the following data were collected during a one week period at each of 25 sites in the Willamette Valley: minimum, median and maximum air temperature and minimum, median and maximum soil temperature. What analytical procedure might be used to address the question of interest?

Explanation / Answer

(a) Yes it is appropriate here ....

Logistics regression is a regression model where the dependent variables are categorical.... may be binary response variable such as ... "0" or, "1", "pass/fail" etc ...

Or, may be more than two outcome model...

In this problem, "level of burn" and "absence/presence of large woody structure" are dependent variables of categorical type .... "Plant regeneration" is the independent variable ..... That's why the logistic regression is appropriate here....
