Question

Give examples and be through and detailed and explain each test.

In using a two-sample, independent t-test, we must do what we can to have equal-size groups. However, for whatever reason, some occasions happen where unequal samples in each group might exist.

Discuss the possible problems, if any, when utilizing an independent t-test with unequal groups.*
In your discussion, use appropriate citations and references to support your view.
*Recall that there MUST be equal samples in each group for a dependent t-tes

Explanation / Answer

independent sample t test is a type of parametric test. it is based on the assumption that data follows normal distribution.

for application of independent sample t test it is required to check the assumption that 2 samples are indepednent.

i should use f TEST or levene's test to test for equality of variances. here null hypothesis, ho: there is no significant difference in the variances of 2 samples. this is tested against h1: there is significant difference in the variances of 2 samples.

if p-value < 0.05, i reject ho and conclude that there is significant difference in the variances of 2 samples. in this situation i apply t test for independent samples with unequal variances.

if p-value > 0.05, i fail to reject ho and conclude that there is no significant difference in the variances of 2 samples. in this situation i apply t test for independent samples with equal variances.

also if sample size of 2 groups are equal i apply  t test for independent samples with equal variances. and if sample size of 2 groups are not equal i apply  t test for independent samples with unequal variances. but it is necessary to check for equality of variance using F test.
