Question 10 A friend has asked for your help understanding the below histogram ofthe number of dragons observed flying above Rhode Island. Each data point encodes the number of dragons that flew over Rhode Island during given day. There are 1500 observations in this dataset. a 15 10 (a) First your friend would like to extract some summary statistics from this image. Give your friend an idea of where the mean and median are. Justify your answer. (b) Is the mean higher than, equal to, or lower than the median? Using the histogram, explain why you chose that relationship between the values of mean and median (c) Based on the histogram that your friend provided, your friend believes that it will be fairly likely that someone will see at least 1 dragon per hour. Do you agree? Justify your answer. (d) Gus Gaussian and your friend are starting adragon watching business. They want to give people an idea of how many dragons people will see during a 6 hour tour of Rhode Island. They want their range to both be reliable and representative of the typical experience. What statistical ideas should they use and approximately what range should they expect to see? Justify your answer.Explanation / Answer
1) the mean and median lies in the area between 10 to 20
2) the mean will be higher than the median as it is a positively skweed diagram and in such case, mean is higher than median
3) No this is not true as there have been oberservation when no dragons were seen
4) They can use the confidence interval to find the interval of the mean with a certain level of confidence.Their range would be around 10-20 as can be seen by the graph but it is subject to change with change in the confidence level ( higher confidence level will increase the range and visa versa)
