Question

The Associate Dean of a Business School was looking for ways to improve the quality of the applicants to its MBA program. In particular, she wanted to know whether the undergraduate degree of applicants differed among her school and the three nearby university with MBA programs. She sampled 100 applicants of her program and an equal number from each of the other Universities. She recorded their undergraduate degrees (1=BA, 2=BEng, 3=BBA, 4=other) as well as the university codes (1, 2, 3, 4)—see attached Excel File. Use the appropriate tabular technique and graph to determine whether the undergraduate degree and the university each person applied to appear related.

Unversity BA Beng BBA other total 100 34 11 2 52 14 27 7 100 100 31 18 24 27 4 40 12 42 100 48 400 total 167 121 64

Explanation / Answer

here applying chi square test of independence:

from above degree of freedom =9 and chi stat =43.3596

for above stat ; p value =0.0000

as p value is significant; we reject null hypothesis and conclude that undergraduate degree and the university each person applied are related
