Question
A two-tailed hypothesis test is being used... A two-tailed hypothesis test is being used to evaluate a treatment effect with alpha = .05. If the sample data produce a z-score of z = 2.24, what is the correct decision? Fail to reject the null hypothesis and conclude that the treatment has no effect Reject the null hypothesis and conclude that the treatment has no effect Reject the null hypothesis art conclude that the treatment has an effect Fail to reject the null hypothesis and conclude that the treatment has an effectExplanation / Answer
Null hypothesis : Treatment has no effect
Alternate hypothesis : Treament has effect.
For two tailed test , find the the ciritcal values for /2
= 0.05 ; /2 = 0.05/2 = 0.025
Z0.025 = 1.96
The Aceeptance region is between -1.96 and +1.96 ;
Any Z-score(Caluclauted value of Z) beyond this is in a rejection region. ie. Rejection region <-1.96 and > 1.96
Given Z-score : -2.24 which is not in the acceptance region ; Hence reject null hypothsis i.e accept alternate hypothesis which concludes that the treament has an effect.
Ans : Reject the null hypothesis and conclude that treatment has an effect.
