Question

The purpose of this assignment is apply formulating a hypothesis test and apply how to formulate a null and alternative hypotheses from chapter 10 in your textbook. Instructions For this assignment, you will use any two questions: One qualitative, And one quantitative question. Take some time with the two questions and think what you thought the mean of the quantitative question may have been in theory, and what proportion of successes you thought may have been regarding the qualitative question and formulate a null and alternative hypothesis for both questions. Give a brief summary of what your survey was about. (1 point) Pick one quantitative question and one qualitative question and include these in your post. (1 points) For the quantitative question, formulate a null and alterative hypothesis using the mean. Make sure to state where your claim is. Include your sample mean found in the project. This should NOT be the value in your hypothesis test. (4 points) For the qualitative question, formulate a null and alternative hypothesis using a proportion. Make sure to state where your claim is. Include your sample proportion found in the project. This should NOT be the value in your hypothesis test. (4 points)

Explanation / Answer

Let the quantitative question be:

Claim: Is the mean score of GRE in 2017 greater than 300 ?

We can expect the mean score to be M = 300

.

Hypothesis framing:

.

Brief summary of survey:

The best we can do is take a sample of say 200 students at random and take a note of their scores. Find the mean score of this data and label it as x bar.

I got the sample mean in this project as : 302

Thus those 200 students who gave GRE this year have the mean score 302

.

.

The qualitative question is :

Claim: Have the airline services enhanced customer service in past six months ?

Let us say that the 60% of the customers were satisfied , 6 months back

Thus Population proportion = 0.60

.

Hypothesis framing:

.

Brief summary:

We can select the passengers at random , Say we can select 100 passengers, from different flights of different age group at random, and get to know if they are satsified , with the help fo a survey

We count the number of people who are satisifed, and then find the sample proportion , this would be denoted by P^

We can say we the collected data , for this project we got : 55 passengers who are satisfied

Thus Sample proportion P^ = 0.55

.

[Note: The answers above are as per the question asked, with the help of the sample data and the population claims we got , we can test the hypothesis and draw the conclusion about the population. In both the questions you would find that the claim is accepted , only when we reject the null hypothesis]
