Question
You are testing out a new healthier type of fruit-gummy snack, Unbelieva-Berry, as an alternative to the existing brand, I-Can-Believe-This-isn't Fruit, on a set of 2^nd graders. You have approximately 30 second graders as your experimental units. You will randomize the type of gummy snack that each student receives. Your friend Katy will administer the snacks, and your friend Shawn will interview the children to see how they enjoyed the snacks. You will tally the results after the fact. b) How could you make this a single-blind study? Be specific in the context of the scenario.Explanation / Answer
In Context with the above scenario if we wish to make this study single blind, the following attributes of the study must be taken in to consideration:
The subjects must not be aware about the treatment , it helps remove the subjective effect or biasedness
The researchers or the experimenters must be aware about the treatment, this will help in correctly administering the test and providing correct results
.
Thus in this sceanrio:the snacks with treatment and without treatment must look similar.
there must be random selection of kids for each group
the same examiner must provide both the variety of snacks
and the same examiner must later interview the children about the snacks. This helps the test to be purely single blinded and ensures that students were not able to differentiate the type of snacks they recieved
