Question

What is the mean rating for Tester 1? You attend a friend's dinner party and his dad happens to be a wine connoisseur. Three varieties of red wine are provided and include 9 different types of Zinfandel, 11 of Meriot and 15 of Cabernet. Suppose, instead, 6 bottles of red wine are randomly selected from all of the bottles of red wine to be served during the first and second dinner courses. How many different possible collections of 6 bottles can be chosen? What is the probability that all 6 bottles are Cabernet? If 6 bottles are randomly selected, what is the probability that this results in two bottles of each variety being chosen?

Explanation / Answer

a) There are 9 Z's out of which 3 have to be selected but order matters so use permultation

9P3=504 (in excel "=PERMUT(9,3)")

b) There are total of 35 red wines out of which 6 have to be chosen (order doesnt matter) so use combination

35C6=

(in excel "=COMBIN(35,6)")

c) 15C6/35C6= 0.0031

Extra credit=

(9C2*11C2*15C2)/35C6=

0.128
