Can someone explain me please or correct me.. Why isnt my libname file working?? It says that doesnt find it .. it first says NOTE: Libref SUMMARY refers to the same physical library as SUM.
NOTE: Libref SUMMARY was successfully assigned as follows:
      Engine:        V9
      Physical Name: C:stat483hw11

but after that says ERROR: File SUMMARY.HW.DATA does not exist.

Explanation / Answer

When you try to assign two librefs to the same directory, you will get a note above saying libref2 refers to same physical library libref1. In your case i guess you had already given libref to your directory as'SUM' and now you are creating a new libref 'SUMMARY'. But that is perfectly fine. You can refer to same library in SAS with two librefs.

When a library is defined so that the libref refers to another library, the SAS cannot access the data present in that library.You get the above error message in such cases. But your code seems fine.
