Question
The dataset consists of 150 newborn babies sampled from a certain hospital. Four variables are recorded: weight (lbs), height (inch), pregnancy time (weeks), and gender.
A) Suppose the 150 babies are random samples from all over the US. Construct by hand a 90% confidence interval for the average weight of all babied born in the US.
B) Interpret the confidence interval from part A.
C) Is it appropriate to use the t-based confidence interval procedure for this study?
Justify your answer. Show pictures if necessary.
Explanation / Answer
First we will need to find mean and standard deviation of all the samples.
A. As n=150 we will use z distribution and as 95% CI so we will have z=1.96
now we will need to find E=margin of error=z*sd/sqrt(n)
based on this E we get CI=mean+/-E
B. Interpretation of CI says that population mean will be between this interval.
C. No asn is large enough we will use z distribution only
