Am I supposed to calculate relaibility from the components like from left to right, or is it by the vendors?

MagTech assembles a product from four major components arranged as follows The components can be purchased from three different vendors, who have supplied the following reliability data: Vendor 1 2 3 Component a. Calculate the product (system) reliabilities for each of the Vendors b. If MagTech ha as decided to use only one vendor to supply all four components, which vendor should be selected? c. Would your decision change if the components were assembled in series (as below)? Why or why not? (calculate new reliabilities)

(a) Rs = RB (1-(!-RA )(1-RC)(1-RD))                         (1)

Vendor 1:

Rs = 0.86 X (1 - 0.06X0.10X0.07)

    = 0.86 X (1 - 0.0004)

   = 0.8596

Vendor 2:

RS = 0.87 ( 1 - 0.05 X 0.07 X 0.04)

     = 0.8699

Vendor 3:

RS = 0.90 X ( 1 - 0.08 X 0.07 X 0.12)

      = 0.8994.

So, Vendor 3 should be selected, because it gives the maximum reliability.

(c) Vendor 1:

Rs = 0.94 X 0.86 X 0.90 X 0.93 = 0.6766

Vendor 2:

RS = 0.95 X 0.87 X 0.93 X 0.96 = 0.7379

Vendor 3:

RS = 0.92 X 0.90 X 0.93 X 0.88 = 0.6776.

Decision changed.

Vendor 2 should be selected since it gives the maximum reliability.
