Question

ldentify the sampling techniques used, and discuss potential sources of bias (if any) Explain. 1965, researchers used random digit dialing to call 1500 people and ask what obstacles kept them from voting In What type of sampling was used? convenience sampling was used, since the 1500 phone numbers that were easiest to reach were selected. systematic sampling was used, since phone numbers were selected from a list using a fixed interval between phone numbers an equal chance of being dialed, so al samples of 1500 phone numbers had an equal chance or being selected. Cluster sampling was used, since the phone numbers were divided into groups, several groups were selected, and each number in those groups was called. What potential sources of bias were present, any n select al that apply DA Individuals may have refused to participate in the sample. This may have made the sample less representative of the population. The sample only consisted of members of less population that were easy to get. These members may have not been representative of the population Individuals may have not been available when the researchers were calling. Those individuals were available may have not been representative of the population, Telephone that have been older on average, and may not have been representative of the entire population sampling only includes people who had telephones. People who owned telephones may wealthier There were no paternal sources of bias.

Explanation / Answer

This is a case of simple random sampling as no other constraint is being imposed, we are simply randomly dialing 1500 numbers where each number has an equal chance of selection

systematic sampling means selection at regular intervals , cluster sampling means to first devide the sample into clusters and then select the samples , which is clearly not the case , also it is not convienient sampling as no numbers is more convinient to access then another

b) the bias would be from the fact that only those people were considered , WHO had an active telephone connection. Hence people who did not had a telephone connection or people whose connection was not active at the time of the survey were not included in the study , hence injecting bias into the study , hence they might not be true representative of the entire population
