Explanation / Answer

According to question , we have given a line (L1) passing through points (4,0) and (0,-8)

which is perpendicular to the required line(L2) passes through point (-6,6) .

Therefore, slope of L1 = (y2-y1)=m(x2-x1)

(-8-0)=m1(0-4)

m1=2

since L1 is perpendicular to L2

therefore slope of L2 is m2 =-1/2 (m1m2=-1)

and the eqn is (y-6)= -1/2(x+6)

x+2y=6

the y intercept (c) of line L1 =>

0+2y=6

c= y=3

So, the eqn of the required line L2 in slope intercept form is y=mx+c

where c is a y intercept and x and y are the arbitrary points

y=-1/2x+3
