NAME: DATE (6 pts) A National Center for Health Stafistics study states that the mean height for the adult male population in the United States is 694 inches with a standard deviation of 3.1 inches The mean height for the population of adult women is 63.8 inches, with a standard deviation of 2.8 inches. Who is taller relative to their gender, a man 73 inches tall, or a woman 68 inches tall? Explain and justify your answer 5. 6. The following set of numbers form an ideal set for the experiment of fipping a certain unfair coin, and counting the number of heads: (0, 0, 0.00, 0. 0, 1,1,1,1, 2) 12 pts) Based on the numbers appearing in the ideal data set, how many flips must there have been in this experiment? a. b. (2 pts) Find the population mean of this ideal data set. (2 pts) Use the population mean to find the probablity of heads on each individual flip. c. d. Explanation / Answer

Using normal distribution, convert the given data for male and female into z values which is given by

z= (x-u)/s

Where, u= mean and s= standard deviation

a) for adult male, u= 69.4, s= 3.1 and X=73

So z = (73 - 69.4)/3.1 = 1.16

Convert z score to percentile as

P(z<1.16) = 77.70%

It means it is covering 77.70% of area.

b) for adult women, u= 63.8 , s=2.8, and X= 68

So, z= (68 -63.8)/2.8 = 1.5

P(z<1.5) = 93.32%

It means it is covering 93.32% of area.

So woman is taller than man.
