Question
please show all work and explain.
Our team has been tasked with planting cherry blossom trees on campus. We've been hired to plant 600 trees. We plan to plant 100 cherry blossom trees a day. The budgeted cost per tree $2.90. The total budget for this project is $1,740. On day one, we only planted 70 cherry blossom trees because the team encountered an issue with stones that had to be removed before the trees could be planted. The cost for day one was $350 because we had to rent a special machine to help remove the stones that cost $147 for the day. What are the cost and schedule variances for the project? What is the SPI and CPI? What do these numbers tell us about the progress we've made on the project?Explanation / Answer
Given: Total trees need to be planted = 600
expected trees planted per day=100
cast per tree= $2.90
total budget=$1740
no. of day of work (expected) = 600/100=6
cost per day =1740/6=$290
Day 1: trees planted=70
Cost for the day=$350
stone machine cost=$147
other costs=$203
Planned value = cost per day=$290
Earned value=(70/600)*1740=$203
SPI= Earned value/ Planned value = 203/290=0.7
Since SPI is below 1, we are behind the scheduled.
CPI= Earned value/ Actual cost = 203/350=0.58
The CPI shows that the project budget is under budgetted.
Thus from the above we say that the project is not properly planned as it is both under budgetted and behind the schedule.
