Question

A passenger liner has wrecked at sea and these sixteen (14) people find themselves together in a lifeboat. The lifeboat, however, can only support nine (9) people. If you were in command of the lifeboat, whom would you choose to survive? Choose nine (9). One caveat: You should note that these nine people eventually land at the shores of a deserted island, where they start a mini-civilization. There might be cause to choose a leader and a lawmaker to ensure order. Pick two members to assume these roles and come up with a logical appeal for both choices. The logical appeal must be different than the logical appeal you used to save his/her life; it must be focused on why that person particularly would make a good leader or lawmaker. For each of the nine you pick, you must support your choice with one EMOTIONAL (pathos) APPEAL and one RATIONAL (logos) APPEAL. You must write three (3) sentences to get credit for each appeal (not three emotional appeals, necessarily, but three sentences to make your case for them). Imagine that the rest of the passengers are hanging the person over the side of the ship and you have to fight for the person’s life using emotional and rational arguments. Use your imaginations and analytical abilities to come up with these appeals!
