Question

Four different paints are advertised as having the same drying time. To check the manufacturers' claims, five samples were tested for each of the paints. The time in minutes until the paint was dry enough for a second coat to be applied was recorded for each sample. The data obtained follow.. Use .05 level of significance to test for any significant differences in mean drying time among the paints. What is your estimate of mean drying time for paint 2? How is it obtained from the computer output?

Explanation / Answer

Since we need to compare more than 2 mean so one way ANOVA will be used. Following is the output of one way ANOVA:

1:

Hypotheses are:

H0: Mean drying time are equal for all paints.

Ha: Mean drying time are not equal for all paints.

Following is the output of ANOVA:

Since p-value of the test is greater than 0.05 so we fail to reject the null hypothesis.

2:

It is sample mean of piant 2. That is esimate of mean drying of paint 2 is 139 minutes.
