The price that humming birds pay for their ability to eat oxygen at an eye-popping rate is they are more prone to death.This is because in order to cope up with the vigorous metabolism that takes place in their body, their hearts containing more mitochondria take up more oxygen.Also,the heart of humming birds are thin walled.Too much pressure on the heart leads to rupture of the heart muscles resulting in heart attacks and ultimate death.
The turtles live much longer than the birds because the metabolism in turtles is very very slow in comparision to that of birds.Because of this, they grow very slowly and their body parts never become weak as they grow.Their bodies do not require more energy to survive and can go without food and water for many days as well.
