Question
Your company was awarded a contract to re-establish a population of frogs in a wetland following a PCB leak. You sample 175 adult frogs from a nearby wetland and genotype them at a gene with two alleles (A1 and A2) that has been well studied in frog populations exposed PCB. Use the table below to help you answer the following question:
What is p for the first two generations of frogs produced in the pond? (refer to Box 6.3 on page 194 of Evolutionary Analysis, by Herron & Freeman 5th Edition)
Genotype A1A1 A1A2 A2A2 Sample size 104 40 31 survival probability 0.85 0.70 0.65Explanation / Answer
Since first genotype and second genotype have survival probability are 0.85 and 0.70 respectively.
Now First genotype A1A1 having no. of survived are 104*85% = 88.4
Second genotype A1A2 having no. of survived are 40*70% = 28
Total no. of survived are 88+28 = 116
So. out of 144, samples, there are survival 116.
So, the survival probability is 116/144 = 0.80.
