Question
Multiple Regression Modeling
It is said that a student’s college GPA (grade point index) can be predicted by his/her HOCS (higher- order cognitive skills) such as problem identification, analytical reasoning, and content integration skills. What other potential predictor variables, numerical and categorical, would you want to use that might lead to the development of a multiple regression model for predicting a student’s college GPA? Briefly describe the direction of the slope that each of these variables should have.
Explanation / Answer
Numerical variables - Number of As in the list of 10 subjects
Diretion of slope = +ive. More the number of As, higher the GPA score
- Number of classes bunked - Higher it is , lower is the score
Categorical - Rating of student( 1 or 2 or 3), Does he sleep for more than 8 hours?
If he is in category 1 student, he will do better in CGPA.
If he sleeps more than 8 hours, he will get better GPA.
