The clinic collected the following information for the 100 new born infants: birth weight, gestational age (in whole weeks), whether or not the mother has complications, and gender of the infant. Birth weight is a continuous variable because it can take any value between 2 numbers which is what a continuous variable is. Note that it is also a numeric variable.

Gestational Age has to be specified in weeks and therefore is a dicrete variable because it can only take integer weeks and cannot take any alue between 2 weeks. Note that it is also a numeric variable.

Variables mother complication and gender both are non quantitative variables are are qualitative in nature therefore both of these variables are categorical variables. Although the gender has values which are numerical but those numbers dont have any meaning as they just act as indicators for male and female identity. Also both of these variables are nominal variables as there is no specific order that is to be there.
