Question
Data were collected from 30 black bears anesthetized in Kentucky. The information obtained from each black bear includes the head length (inches, length of the body (inches), distance around the chest (inches), and weight (pounds). The regression outputs for each variable are given below. Find the best SLR model that predicts the weight of the bear using the other three predictor variables. Justify why it is the best model by comparing r, r^2 and s_e. Check all four assumptions of your best SLR model. Use your best model to predict the weight of a black bear captured in Kentucky that has the following information: Head length = 15.3 inches Length of the body = 70.4 inches Distance around the chest = 30.5 inchesExplanation / Answer
First of all from the light of the question that you have provided only answer to the first and at max. third question is feasible..
from the graph that have been provided in the third plot the points shows less scaterness around the regression line other than the 1st and the 2nd plots so one would think the weight and the chest distance as linearly related and is the best model among the three SLR models.
now justification.
as the R sq is highest for the third model so chest distance explains weight much better than the other explanatory variables and also r shows a high positive value for this regression which helps us to conclude that the third model is the best and weight and the chest distance are positively related and shows high asociation between them.also the estimate of the standard error is lowest for this model. which shows that the major portion of weight is being explained by chest distance.
the four assumption is of
as the data set is not given we cannot conclude any thing about
but from the graph it is clearly observed that all the dependent variables are linearly related with the response.
and finally we have to put each values in the corresponding regression equation and calculate weights in each cases that comes out to be.
(43.92*15.3)-399.4= 272.576 lbs
(9.08*70.4)-362.9= 276.332 lbs
(30.5*12.12)-243.4=126.26 lbs.
