Question
1.A series of experiments have been performed with the intent being to minimize a performance parameter. The performance parameter in this case is the depth of indentation in a certain feature, the units are angstroms (atomic bond lengths are normally a little less than 1 angstrom so these indentations are small) The data is plotted below in both a normal probability plot and a histogram.
A)Is the data normally distributed? Explain your conclusion.
B)Also, explain why you would or would not expect this type of measurement to produce normally distributed results
99.9 T 60 30- 0.1 1000 500 300 Probability Plot of C1 Normal Mean 580.4 StDev 414.7 0.830 AD P-value 0.031 1500 2000 500 1000 Histogram of C1 Normal Mean 580.4 StDev 414.7 600 900 1200 1500 300Explanation / Answer
A)Is the data normally distributed: A part of this question can be accepted as true since p =0.031 <0.05 also, if data points at 0 were not there, it would have been more like normal distribution. More datapoints at 0 is causing the histogram look like the curve is right skewed
B) Again, the reason goes the same, If the data points at 0 were not too much, the results would have been more expected to be normal distributed. however to some extent it can be accepted that it follows normal distribution ignoring the errors due to the frequency at 0 data point
