Question

A weight clinic advertised that last month its patients, on average, lost 6 lbs. Assuming that average refers to the mean. Which of the following claims must be true based on this information? Last month fewer than half of their patients lost 6 lbs or less. Last month at least one of their patients lost exactly 6 lbs. Last month at least one of their patients lost more than 9 lbs. Two months ago some of their patients lost at least 6 lbs. Last month some of their patients lost at least 6 lbs. None of the above statements is true.

Explanation / Answer

The advertisement is that last month its patients lost , on average 6 lbs.

That means it may be true that some of them lost more than 6 , some of them lost less than 6 and some exactly 6 lbs.

But we can not say that some of them exactly lost 6 lbs.

and similarly for the option b , c and d .

Hence none of the statements is true.
