optimization subject in electrical engineering

Question #4": A company that makes windows has three employees. The company makes two different kinds of windows: wood-framed windows and aluminum-framed windows. The can earn 60 KD profit for each wood-framed window, and 30 KD for each aluminum-framed window Worker 1 makes the wood frames, and he can make 6 per day. Worker 2 makes the aluminum frames, and he can make 4 per day. Worker 3 forms and cuts glass, and he can make 48 square feet of glass per day. Each wood-framed window uses 6 square feet of glass and each aluminum-framed window uses 8 square feet of glass. The company wished to determine how many windows of each type to produce per day to maximize otal profit company a) Construct a Mathematical model for the problem. b) Solve the problem using MATLAB

Explanation / Answer

a) Lets denote x: number of wood framed windows and y= number of aluminium framed windows

According to the question, Worker 1 can make 6 wood frames per day thats constraint 1 : x<=6; Worker 2 can make 4 aluminium frames per day thats constraint 2 : y<=4.

Worker 3 can make cut 48sq feet glass sheets and wood needs 6 sq feet each and aluminium needs 8 sq feet so, that makes constraint 3: 6*x + 8*y <=48.

Now the function to be optimized can be formed as: f(x,y) = (60*10^3) * x + (30*10^3) * y

b) USE THE BELOW FUNCTION, make sure you have Optimization Toolbox.

c :={x<=6, y<= 4, 6*x + 8*y <= 48}:
f :=((60*10^3)*x + (30*10^3)*y):
linopt::maximize([c,<NonNegative>, All])
