Which of the following describes the parasite form that first infects a human host?

(A) merozoite.
(B) gametocyte.
(C) Anopheles.
(D) sporozoite.
(E) vector.

If research demonstrates that malaria cannot infect dogs, the author's claim that mosquitoes are essential to the life-cycle of the malaria parasite would be:

(A) definitively proved.

(B) slightly weakened but still possible.
(C) slightly strengthened but still dubious.
(D) clearly rebutted.
(E) largely unaffected.

Explanation / Answer

1. Option D is the correct answer. When anopheles mosquiti bite a human it innoculates sporozoites into the human blood which enter to the liver cell and converts into merozoites which releases after rupturing of liver cells. Merozoites produces gametocytes which enters to the mosquito guts via bite which ultimately produces sporozoites.

2. Option B is correct. Dogs do not get infected with malaria because of the presence of fur on their body which protect them from mosqito bite but still there are some exposed body part like ear and moth where fur does not contain and mosquito bite is possible on these part of the body. Thus, the claim is slightly weakened but still possible. The slightly weakened is due to very less possibilty of mosquito bite on the exposed body part of dogs.
