Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease so a primer on immunity is necessary.When an foreign substance gets into the body,the immune system destroys the invader.The special cells which are the lymphocytes save the day.The T-cell lymphocytes identify the Invaders through their antigens.

Once these invaders are identified,the T-cells release chemicals called cytokines which trigger the B-cell lymphocytes to produce antibodies.The antibody invaders find the antigens and attach to them so that the white blood cells can destroy these invaders.But in RA the LYMPHOCYTES DON'T FUNCTION PROPERLY.
