Question
You are in a 3-dimensional space in which light travels at the speed c = 3 * 10^8 m/s. You send a pulse of light in one direction and 2 seconds later a pulse arrives from the opposite direction. Curious, you send out another pulse in a different direction. You do this multiple times, in a variety of directions and always, 2 seconds later you receive a pulse from the opposite direction. You travel all around this space and wherever you are you get the same result.
A) What is going on? [Please answer with one to two or three sentences.]
B) Using the meter as your unit of length, what is the value of k (k represents the curvature of space)?
Explanation / Answer
A) The speed of light has the same value c in all direction and in all inertial frames. As long as my speed is not close to the speed of light (which is impossible) , I will get the pulse after same time interval.
