Question

Question 2 [7 marks]
A study was carried out to investigate the wear rate of metallic content on pins.
The relationship between the percentage of metallic content of pins (x) and wear loss (y) are investigated.
A linear regression model was fitted to the data. The equation of the least squares fitted line for the data is:

(a) Obtain a 90% prediction interval for the wear loss of a pin with 50% metallic content. [5]

(b) Explain whether a 90% confidence interval for the mean response when the metallic
content is 50% would be wider or narrower than the interval in part (a). [2]

A linear regression model was fitted to the data. The equation of the least squares fitted line for the data is: 0.7872 + 0.0076 x h he 10412. The sample size is 17, x-42.33, s 1 1 1 14.6 and s*-0.04 12.
