Part a) answer:

For the given scenario, the independent variable for this research study is given as the self esteem. These levels are manipulated by using the responses getting from the parents for deciding the self esteem as high or low.

For this research study, the dependent variable is given as supportiveness experienced from parents and friends. They are measured by using the different rankings. The scale for this variable is used as ordinal scale or measurement.
