Question
What effect does increasing the sample size have on the spread of the sampling distribution of x-bar?
The spread of the sampling distribution gets closer to the spread of the population.
The spread of the sampling distribution gets larger.
The spread of the sampling distribution gets smaller.
It has no effect. The spread of the sampling distribution always equals the spread of the population.
The spread of the sampling distribution gets closer to the spread of the population.
The spread of the sampling distribution gets larger.
The spread of the sampling distribution gets smaller.
It has no effect. The spread of the sampling distribution always equals the spread of the population.
Explanation / Answer
As we increase sample size standard variation reduces and make the spread gets smaller. Which is clearly mentioned in central limit theorem, the sampling distribution will look more and more like normal distribution as the sample size is increased, even when the population itself is not normally distributed!
