Hello I would like help interpreting these three homework problems Thank you so much.
>Interpret the confidence interval. An experiment was conducted to estimate the average fat content of a quarter pounder with cheese. A random sample of 30 burgers produced a sample mean of 26 grams which resulted in a 95% confidence interval of ( 25 , 27) grams. Which of the following is the correct interpretation of this interval?
a.95% of the quarter pounders with cheese sampled had a fat content between 25 and 27 grams.
b.We are 95% confident that the mean fat content of the sampled quarter pounders with cheese is between 25 and 27 grams.
c.We are 95% confident that the mean fat content of a quarter pounder with cheese is between 25 and 27 grams.
d.We are 95% confident that the range of fat content of a quarter pounder with cheese is between 25 and 27 grams.
Next I am to determine type I and II errors. I know that type I error occurs if the null hypothesis is rejected when it is true and type II error occurs if the null hypothesis is not rejected when false. But I am not sure is I chose the appropriate response.
>A waste management service attempts to design routes so that each of their trucks pick-up on average four tons of garbage or less. A particular garbage collector believes, however, that he averages picking up more than four tons of garbage per day and decides to perform a hypothesis test. Identify a Type II error in the context of this hypothesis test.
a.Concluding that the garbage collector picks up on average more than 4 tons of garbage per day when, in fact, he doesn’t.
b.Not concluding that the garbage collector picks up on average more than 4 tons of garbage per day when, in fact, he does.
c.Concluding that the garbage collector picks up on average 4 tons of garbage per day when, in fact, he picks up more.
d.Not concluding that the garbage collector picks up on average 4 tons of garbage per day when, in fact, he does.
>Identify the Type I error. A state university annual report showed that its retention rate was at 24% and university officials would like to increase this rate. After implementing several new programs during the last two years, the university reevaluated its retention rate. Identify a Type I error in the context of this hypothesis test.
a.The university does not conclude that retention is on the rise since the retention rate can only decrease.
b.The university does not conclude that retention rate is increasing, but in fact the retention rate has increased from 24%.
c.The university concludes that retention is on the rise since the retention rate can only increase.
d.The university concludes that retention rate is increasing, but in fact it has not.
Explanation / Answer
Answer: C
We are 95% confident that the mean fat content of a quarter pounder with cheese is between 25 and 27 grams.
Answer B
Not concluding that the garbage collector picks up on average more than 4 tons of garbage per day when, in fact, he does.
Answer A
The university does not conclude that retention is on the rise since the retention rate can only decrease.
