9. Consider the statement If n is odd, then n is even. Suppose you are trying to disprove this statement by direct approach. The structure of the proof should be (A) Suppose n is odd and deduce that n is even. (B) Suppose n2 is even and deduce n is odd. (C) Suppose n2 is odd and decuce n is even. (D) Produce n such that n is odd and n is odd. 10. Consider the statement If n is a positive integer, then n, n + 41 is a prime number. Which of the following is true about this statement (A) This statement is true. (B) This statement is false.Explanation / Answer
9.
if n is odd, n2 is also odd.
Proof
let n = 2m + 1 (where m is positive integer)
n*n = (2m+1) (2m+1) = 4m2+4m+1
4m2+4m+1 is always odd because first 2 terms are always even and the last term (1) is odd.
Even + Even + Odd is odd.
Please post the other question in a separate post, would be happy to answe.
